The Wiper Motor for the Windshield Wiper:

The wiper motor is an electric motor and a component of the windshield washer system. It is responsible for the movement of the wiper arms that carry the windshield wiper blades. The rotation of the wiper motor is transferred to the windshield wipers.

If a vehicle has windshield wipers for both the front windshield and rear window, one (or more) wiper motors are typically in use. One wiper motor drives the front windshield wipers, while another drives the rear windshield wipers. This results in different control elements in the driver's compartment to turn on or off the different wiper systems; a switch for the front windshield wiper, a switch for the rear windshield wiper.

If a wiper motor is defective, the windshield wiper blades no longer move, and consequently, they cannot ensure a clean windshield. If the view through the windows is obstructed, the risk of losing control in traffic and being involved in an accident increases. The logical consequence is the prompt replacement of the faulty wiper motor! Replacing a wiper motor is not rocket science - disconnect electrical connections, release mechanical connections and attachments, and the installation of the new wiper motor is done in reverse order. Unfortunately, the devil often lies in the details: poor accessibility of attachments, screws that won't budge, the wiper linkage always seems to be in the way. This is where the necessary craftsmanship and/or the advice and assistance of a professional come in handy.

But:
The durability of the wiper motor usually exceeds the lifespan of the vehicle in which it is installed. Nevertheless, like any moving component, it is subject to wear and tear and can also break down.
Tips:
If the windshield wiper no longer moves, it may not necessarily be due to a defective wiper motor - often, a defect in the electrical wiring or the on-off switch is the cause. Checking the electrical fuses as a first step can prevent unnecessary tinkering with a supposedly faulty wiper motor and its associated wiper linkage.
