Due to warpage during manufacturing, friction may occur in the exhaust pipes after installation - the consequences are cracks or breaks in exhaust pipes and welds. To avoid this, all exhaust systems for Fiat 500 and Fiat 126 have to be annealed to get tension-free after installation! No warranty on cracks or breaks on exhaust pipes or weld seams!

The Exhaust System

Colloquially, the exhaust system is referred to as the exhaust. The exhaust gases flowing from the cylinders are directed into the exhaust system, and the exhaust noises are reduced (muffler).

An exhaust system is subjected to extreme stresses. The exhaust must withstand corrosion attacks from hot gases and acids created by condensation from the inside, as well as moisture, spray, and saltwater from the outside. Therefore, an exhaust has only a limited lifespan. Often, defects in the exhaust system become noticeable – it becomes louder, a booming and roaring sound like a racing car is heard. This means that a part of the exhaust system is no longer sealed – time to replace the corresponding part.

Replacing the exhaust system is not rocket science, access to a lift is advantageous.
