The Oil Filter
Engines that burn fuels are lubricated with oil, which flows in a closed circuit. When burning fuel, portions of the oil are also burned. To ensure the essential lubrication of the engine, burned portions of the oil, metal abrasion from the engine, and other impurities (e.g., soot particles) are filtered out in the oil filter. In a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine, the filter must be regularly replaced.
