The Air Filter
In most cases, the air filters used in vehicle construction are so-called dry filters. These consist of paper-like fabric, which is often folded between two support frames - round or square - and fixed. This folding increases the filter's surface area and thus its capacity and lifespan. External air is sucked in and must pass through this fine-pored air filter fabric to enter the engine. Foreign particles remain in the filter. Dry filters are very reliable, easy to manufacture, and therefore inexpensive. They are discarded at the end of their lifespan.
