The Fuel Filter

Fuel filters are used in the fuel line from the tank to the engine, where they prevent foreign substances from entering the engine (fuel pump, injection system) and causing damage. These damages include faster wear of the fuel pump, clogging of the fine injection nozzles, or increased wear on the hot spots in the engine, where the fuel-air mixture is ignited, burned, and then exhausted. Every vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine has a fuel filter, as this small and inexpensive part prevents significant damage.

Diesel filters and petrol filters are to be distinguished. Petrol filters are often small disposable filters made of transparent plastic, which have two connections to be connected to the fuel flow.
