Warning Vest Requirement:
Since July 1, 2014, there has been a mandatory warning vest requirement in Germany to protect individuals on the road. Regardless of the number of occupants, every commercial and private vehicle must have a warning vest (according to DIN EN 471).
During a check, you are obligated to show and hand over the vest for inspection. Violation can result in a fine.
Wearing a warning vest according to Euro standard 471 is legally required for individuals who exit the vehicle outside of built-up areas and stay on the road or shoulder. This regulation has been in effect in Italy since April 1, 2004, in Spain since July 24, 2004. In Austria, the "warning vest requirement" has been in effect since May 1, 2005.
For your personal safety and to avoid fines (in Italy not less than 33.60 Euro - in Spain up to 91 Euro), it is advisable to carry at least one warning vest readily accessible on every journey and put it on in relevant situations (e.g., breakdown or accident) before exiting the vehicle.
