Prices and Classification

The prices published here are values related to private-to-private transactions. They do not include value-added tax.

Experience shows that the dealer price is up to 25% higher than the values listed here. The listed values represent the average prices achieved in Germany and the adjacent European countries, in euros.

For information on how to classify a vehicle based on its condition, please refer to the list on the following page. There are also intermediate levels in the condition rating (e.g., 3+).

The market value quantifies the current value of the vehicle in the market. This means that for this vehicle, the estimated market value would be paid or achieved at the time of purchase or sale. It generally represents the average price in the private market. However, for rarely traded models and vehicles primarily sold commercially, the market value also takes into account trade (as a net amount), international auction results (excluding value-added tax), and the international market situation.

The market value is the basis for insurance classification (comprehensive conditions) in classic car special rates. It is considered a fixed price in accordance with § 57 VVG (Insurance Contract Act). The market value is VAT neutral.

Condition Ratings

Grade 1Immaculate condition. No defects in technology or appearance. Vehicles of the absolute top class. Unrestored, fully functional original, or completely and perfectly restored top vehicle. Like new (or better***). Very rare! A vehicle that one approaches with enthusiasm, and upon closer inspection, no defects can be found. Corresponds to the highest technical and craftsmanship quality and significantly exceeds the manufacturing standard of today's usual mass production.
Grade 2Good condition. Without defects but with light (!) signs of wear. Original or professionally and elaborately restored. No missing or additionally mounted parts. A vehicle that one approaches with enthusiasm, but on closer inspection, shows slight signs of use. In terms of today's used car market, it would correspond to a 3 to 5-year-old, optimally maintained vehicle with a maximum of 50,000 to 80,000 km mileage.
Grade 3Used condition. Normal traces of the years. Minor defects but fully operational. No rust-through. No immediate work required. Not beautiful but functional. A vehicle that, from a distance, appears flawless but still looks used. Upon closer inspection, one can easily see signs of use and various minor defects. Corresponds visually to an 8 to 12-year-old, averagely maintained vehicle with a mileage of 100,000 to 150,000 km.
Grade 4Worn condition. Only limited operational. Immediate work required. Light to medium rust-through. Some small parts are missing or defective. Partially restored. Easy to repair (or restore). A vehicle whose defects can be seen from a distance. Even a superficial inspection shows necessary repairs. Corresponds to a vehicle aged between 14 and 20 years with negligent care and a mileage of 160,000 to 220,000 km.
Grade 5In need of restoration. Not operational. Poorly restored or partially or completely disassembled. Major investments needed, but still restorable. Missing parts. A vehicle that, due to its visual appearance, is clearly classified as a restoration project. Corresponds to a vehicle over 20 years old, poorly maintained, with over 220,000 km mileage, where the upcoming inspection according to §29 means the end, or technical defects end its previous use from an economic perspective.
*** Considering that many vehicle brands (especially English and Italian ones) had a production quality that would now be more like condition 1- by today's standards.
