Liège-Brescia-Liège – a report by Bill Cowing

"We have just completed the LBL rally succefully with our Autobianchi Bianchina Transformable. This is a very tough rally for the cars and covered approx 4000 km over the Alps and Dolomites several times with 112 check points as well as time trials. The AB went very well with only a couple of issues including the flexible drive coupling, slipped ignition timing and a fuse that vibrates out if it’s holder.

We finished 4th overall and 1st in class. There were several Fiats and derivatives competing and overall they did well. Climbing the mountains was a great strain on the 500 cc engine but the mods to prop open the engine lid helped by reducing the oil temperature by 10 degrees. The car had real heart driving up the inclines and must have been the “King of the mountains” outpacing larger machines and even the eventual winner.
