Photo documentation by Rudi Hilz: How to turn a Fiat 500 into a Steyr Puch TR 650
How to turn a Fiat 500 into a Steyr Puch TR 650 – a story by Rudi Hilz
In fact, “everything is linked with Mr. Gerstl,” wrote Rudi Hilz, an enthusiastic gearhead, who brought us the photo documentation that shows the restoration and conversion of his Fiat 500 into a Steyr Puch TR 650. “It was him who sold me the white Fiat 500 back in time in Biburg,” he wrote, further stating that he bought 97% of “all the necessary spare parts” from Axel Gerstl. And the result is more than impressive, as you can see from the pictures.
The little white Fiat 500 prior to conversion.
This work proves that Rudi Hilz is a gifted gearhead. Using an installation gauge, he removed “the entire rear part, the back seat bench of the Fiat”, which enabled him to fit a Steyr Puch gearbox. “This installation gauge and a used Steyr Puch back seat portion” are enough to convert a Fiat 500, regardless of the model, based on the gearbox and the complete brake kit, into a Steyr Puch,” he explained.
The result of many years of work: a Steyr Puch TR 650.
He was pleased to have his photo documentation published by us on our home page. Maybe it will motivate other clever tinkerers to try and do the same. This is what the Axel Gerstl team says: Kudos, Rudi!
