Windshield Wiper and Wiper Blade

The windshield wiper is colloquially known as the part of the car that keeps the windshield or rear window clean. The windshield wiper is a component of the windshield cleaning system, which consists of the wiper motor, the wiper arm, and the wiper blade. While the wiper motor and wiper arm typically last the entire lifespan of a car, the wiper blade is subject to constant wear and must be replaced regularly, similar to a filter - oil filter, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter.

Under the front hood is the wiper motor, which sets the wiper arms in motion through a linkage. The joint of the wiper blade is clipped to the wiper arms. The most important part of the wiper blade is the wiper rubber made of synthetic rubber. The wiper blade is designed to press the wiper rubber as evenly as possible onto the front windshield. To achieve this, a metal strip is often integrated into a wiper blade.

In a new wiper blade, the edge that rests on the windshield is slightly inwardly curved, creating two fine rubber edges. As the wiper rubber performs its task, this double edge of the wiper rubber is slowly but surely worn down by friction, dirt, water, and snow, becoming rounded, damaged, and frayed, resulting in cracks in the rubber.

When the edges on the wiper rubber of the windshield wiper are worn out, streaks and smears occur when wiping on the windshield. This restricts clear visibility, especially in wet and dark conditions, as lights reflect in these residues on the windshield. Often, a worn-out windshield wiper can also be heard - it squeaks and rattles during wiping. It's time to renew the windshield wiper or its wiper blade. Good windshield wipers and thus clear visibility are vital in bad weather.

The wiper blade of a windshield wiper can be easily replaced. The windshield wiper is attached to the wiper arm with a plastic clip. This clip is opened, and the old windshield wiper is pulled off. New clips are supplied by manufacturers with the new wiper rubbers. The matching plastic piece is clipped onto the wiper rubber, then attached to the wiper arm - and done. The assembly is straightforward.
