> 50 Years Ago: The Fiat 500 F replaced the D model |
50 years Fiat 500 F Particularly drastic was the change from suicide doors to the standard, front-hinged doors that led to improved safety. In addition, the Fiat 500 F had a new, larger windshield, a new roof frame, modified rear trailing and slightly modified coil springs. Springs in the seat replaced the rubber bands and improved the driving comfort for all passengerds. The fuel tank was no longer square, as with the Fiat 500 N / D versions, but cylindrical, the indicators lost their decorative aluminum frame, the chrome lever on the steering column switch were replaced by the more progressive plastic levers, and the famous bow-wheels (see FIG. our way. 10013) celebrated their premiere as part of the model update. There was also a technical update: The Fiat 500 F received a more powerful, 499,5ccm engine with an output of 18 PS (500 D: 17.5 hp), a new starter and a new transmission. The speedometer went, due to the higher engine power, now up to 120 km/h, and the car now got a door contact switch and an interior light. Visually the Fiat 500 F got a facelift: there were more modern tail lights, modified headlights and trim rings, new rubber mats, seat covers, door panels, window cranks, door levers, door handles and locks. In addition, some changes were made to the body work: fenders, front panel, outer - and inner sill, floor panels, hood, A- and B-pillars, rear lights cutout in the side part and on the dashboard. The rear half of the roof was not removable anymore. All of these innovations ensured, that the Fiat 500 attained the height of his still unbroken popularity in the late sixties / early seventies. We want to say "Happy Birthday!", little Fiat 500 F, may you have another 50 legendary years! |
