30 Years of Axel Gerstl – The First Articles Arrived! Dear Customers, dear friends of the Fiat 500, Fiat 126 and Fiat 600, so many of you have already answered our call for their very personal feedback on the occasion of our anniversary. We want to say a warm thank-you to all those who took the time so far and sent us their articles. Click here to read how W. Ausserbauer from Germany and S. Vinciguerra from Italy feel when recalling 30 years of Axel Gerstl. We hope to receive other exciting articles over the course of this year! Besides, we received a very special message from an old friend who was at the same time one of the first customers. His name is R. Schlitt, and we present here what comes to his mind when he remembers “30 years of Axel Gerstl”, courtesy of the author. 30 years of Axel Gerstl – Once upon a time in a small garage Hello Axel, I just can’t believe it! Are you really sure? 30 years? It’s crazy how time goes by. I will never forget how we got to know each other. I still see you in your garage, tinkering with rusty parts of stripped 500 models – and me, standing there, dreaming my vision of a Munich Fiat 500 club with meetings, rides and many like-minded enthusiasts. Soon, the garage became too small, but the farmstead in Biburg was (still) too big. I experienced a similar situation. To be honest, restoring little Fiats in an underground garage was not that funny, especially as the price for this was that I had to wash the cars of 20 of my neighbours – several times! And when I finally wanted to build a paint booth, they kicked me out. Weird. There was one solution to two similar problems: something that you’d call synergy! The salesroom of today was my “workshop” 30 years ago. It was far away from Schwabing, but it was affordable and directly located next to the growing parts warehouse. This was awesome! You can still see the spray mist today :-) Eventually, the warehouse became bigger and bigger, and I felt less and less inclined to drive 35 kms out into nowhere to restore my beloved Fiats. So – as if on cue – we had the same idea at the same time, i.e. to separate our two projects physically. To this day, we are still great friends, keep well in touch – although we don’t meet very often – and are happy if the other one is well. My dear Axel! All my best wishes for your and your life’s work. May your house be safe from fire and trouble and may all your wishes come true. I’ll drink to the good old days and cherish our great memories. I was especially thrilled when virtually every owner of a Fiat 500 I knew immediately praised Axel Gerstl as the absolute expert centre. When ordering my “initial equipment”, I soon realized why this is so. Everyone was extremely friendly, I got expert advice and all parts were delivered promptly. As soon as the streets are clear of snow and salt again, I will come out to your place and personally congratulate you on your 30th anniversary." |
