Report on the “Rollendes Museum 2019” event and new cost schedule for repairs!

Dear customers, dear friends of the Fiat 500, Fiat 126 and Fiat 600,

This time, Angie Schlegel gives an account of a very special event in which she and her little Fiat 500 had the privilege to take part on October 19, 2019. We are talking about the “Rollendes Museum” (rolling museum) event, which is part of a programme called “Lange Nacht der Münchner Museen” (The Long Night of Munich Museums). 2019 saw another edition of this long-standing annual programme which features more than 90 museums, collections, galleries, churches, historical buildings and sites in Munich opening their doors and inviting the general public to spend some time, delving in arts and culture, natural science and technology, including guided tours, live music and stage shows. But the “Rollendes Museum” stole the show with its more than 100 classic cars including Angie’s Fiat 500 that had all been converted into taxis for this event. Click here to read about Angie’s adventures during that night.

Moreover, there is news from our web shop: our new cost schedule for repairs and servicing is online! Click here to find which expenses you might incur if you have your Fiat 500, Fiat 126 or Fiat 600 repaired by a qualified repair shop.

And of course, we are also proud to present the "Fiat of the month February" along with some interesting current offers and news concerning the Fiat 500, Fiat 126 and Fiat 600.

We hope you enjoy reading this month's newsletter!

Cultural Asset on Wheels – a report by Fiat 500 driver Angie Schlegel

For the 11th time, visitors had the opportunity to take a free ride in a classic car to the Deutsches Museum, starting at the museum’s Verkehrszentrum (traffic centre) outpost. To grace the Long Night of Munich Museums, this event was organised by the “Classics for Charity e.V.” association, together with Deutsches Museum. More than 100 classic car drivers volunteered from 7pm to 12pm to transport enthusiastic people in their cars.

In a spontaneous move, I had also applied two weeks before the event and was very happy when I learned that I had been accepted. For all who took part for the first time, introductory rides were offered. A young man in his recently restored VW T2 van had lent himself to do this tour with us newbies. It was the first time that he had his van crowded with 9 persons altogether.

At 6pm, the drivers were briefed. The time remaining before the start was used to award prizes, e.g. for the longest journey (a VW Beetle from Hamburg), the biggest club (the OFOs – Obermenzing classic car friends), the oldest and the youngest participants, the oldest car and the most elegant car (Bentley MK VI, built in 1947), etc.

Then, the first group headed for the Deutsches Museum. At 7pm, the adventure began. Staff with white gloves on red carpets opened the doors and helped the passengers into the cars. The queues were up to 200 metres long and people “struggled” to board the most popular classic cars, such as DeLorean, Mercedes SL Gullwing, Bentley and others. Many passengers did nothing but cruise to and fro in the classic cars all night long. A middle-aged man told me that he would queue again each time he got out of a car.

To be honest, it was a bit strenuous, but it was also great fun. I had some very kind and attentive passengers – and many young people who had never had a ride in a classic car before. At midnight, a prize draw was held, then some speeches of thanks followed and finally, we were treated to a soup. It was a very special kind of classic car meeting – and I hope to be in on it next year again.

News from our web shop: List of repairs or servicing including prices

The new price schedule for repairs

The new price schedule for repairs is online!

Servicing is due at regular intervals, but sometimes, major repair work may also be necessary on a Fiat 500, a Fiat 126 or a Fiat 600. Especially newcomers to the classic car scene, however, often shy away from turning to a specialist repair shop for concerns of supposedly horrendous costs. However, the most common repair and servicing work is not that expensive in most cases, as compared to the corresponding costs for new vehicles of current generations.

To give you a rough idea of the costs you might incur, we asked our trusted repair shop to work out an approximate estimate of costs for us. With their long-standing experience in repairs and servicing of classic cars, especially the Fiat 500, these specialists know what they are talking about. The prices indicated here on our website are of course only approximate, though, as the hourly rates charged by a repair shop depend on the cost of living and the economic power in the respective region / country. This is why we added the estimated labour time required for each task to provide a basis of comparison that you can use when determining the actual costs. So, if you are in doubt, take the estimated labour time as a reference or obtain a quote from your repair shop in advance.
