Preliminary report: British-Italian Classics Ride / Davide's Parts Guides Dear customers, dear friends of the Fiat 500, Fiat 126 and Fiat 600, The 21st Bad König Classic Car Festival should have taken place in 2021, but like so many events in the past two years, the biennial classic car meeting had to be postponed because of the pandemic. In 2022, there will be a new attempt to hold the festival in the Odenwald region in the heart of Germany. As usual, the focus will be on British-Italian classic cars, with the Fiat 500 playing a very special role this time. In fact, the organiser Alexander Hahn makes no secret of his great love of Italy, the “Dolce Vita” and the Italian way of life. He calls himself the proud owner of a Fiat 500 D, an NSU-Fiat 500 Weinsberg Coupé, an Alfa Romeo Duetto and a Vespa 150cc. His aim is to bring the Fiat 500 scene closer together via the classic car festival, make new contacts, talk shop and celebrate together. “To the good old times” in the Odenwald – the classic car festival Due to the pandemic, it will start a year late: the 21st Bad König Classic Car Festival on 8-10 July 2022 in the Bad König spa park called “An den Seen” in the Odenwald region in the heart of Germany. This year’s motto is “To the good old times” – more than justified after the long period of pandemic-related hardships. For it is not only the good old days of classic cars that are to be evoked, but also a time of light-heartedness and ease, conviviality and celebrating together, as was still possible and customary before the pandemic. Accordingly, the organiser Alexander Hahn, himself a passionate Fiat 500 owner and driver, as well as the co-organising “Odenwälder Oldtimerfreunde” (association of classic car lovers in the Odenwald region), are looking forward to an “eventful weekend” in the company of like-minded classic car enthusiasts. For Fiat 500 drivers, this is an ideal date, because this classic car festival starts exactly one week after the traditional Fiat 500 meeting in Garlenda – so those who are already on the road can drive straight on and showcase their Fiat 500 at the next event where you will be in the best company with your vintage Fiat. In 2019, almost 1,600 classic cars, modern classics and sports cars took part in the meeting and in the rides, and up to 15,000 visitors marvelled at the vehicles on display. For 2022, Alexander Hahn expects up to 2,000 vehicles in dry weather. Even though vehicles of all makes and model years up to the latest sports car take part in the rides, can be exhibited and admired in the spa park by the lakes, the British-Italian classics will take the centre stage of the festival: Fiats, Alfa Romeos, Lancias and Ferraris alongside Bentleys, Jaguars, MGs and Lotus. However, Alexander Hahn emphasises: “The little Fiats are especially close to my heart and we want to live that together again.” That’s why he hopes above all to see many Fiat 500s, “regardless of whether the teams want to take part in our rides or just enjoy the atmosphere on the spa park grounds, e.g. to picnic and display their own Fiat 500.” In addition, numerous Fiat Topolinos are expected, because the Topolino Club Germany will be on site with its own club stand, where the members want to present their "little mice" to curious visitors. During the event, various rides will take place. Although the cars will start in various categories, an overall winner will be determined. First, on Saturday, 9 July 2022, the “Nibelungen Klassik” (Nibelung classics) will take the participants through some beautiful Hessian and Franconian regions with their traditional half-timbered houses. The vehicles, grouped into categories, will start at different times, some of them having to complete different sections of the route. Then, on Sunday, 10 July 2022, the traditional British-Italian classic ride will be the main event. “This year's ride will commemorate the Olympic Rally that took place 50 years ago, which was Walter Röhrl’s springboard to his world career,” Alexander Hahn told us. “Our routing will put the focus of the ride on the SS 30 (Krähberg) of the Olympia Rally.” The teams will have to face exciting special stages and drive-through controls. In both rides, Fiat Topolinos and Fiat 500s as well as their derivatives up to and including 1977 will be competing in their separate classes – so a class win for a 500 team is guaranteed! But even for visitors who do not own a classic car, there is plenty on offer besides the exhibitions: rock ‘n’ roll music and a varied programme will round off the classic car festival.
