Revival of Liège-Brescia-Liège Classic Rally just about to start! Dear Customers, dear friends of the Fiat 500, Fiat 126 and Fiat 600, There are just a few days left until July 11, 2018, the day that will see the start of the historic Liège-Brescia-Liège rallye revival. According to Malcolm McKay, organiser of the event, this is the only international rally ever won by a Fiat 500. The revival of the Liège-Brescia-Liège classic rally is just about to start! 60 years after it was run for the first time in 1958, the Liège-Brescia-Lièce classic rally, the only competition dedicated exclusively to microcars (up to 700cc), is back. Between July 11 and 22, 2018, the participants will experience a tour tour steeped in history up hill and down dale: from Liège to Brescia and back on the historic 1958 route through Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy and Slovenia – this topic was already covered in our newsletter 149. The organiser, Malcolm McKay, is absolutely sure that the 2018 revival will become a “really great event.” The Fiat 500 enthusiasts in particular will eagerly wait for the event, as it was indeed a brand-new Fiat 500 Sport that came in first after a 64-hours non-stop race in the 2,000-miles original rally in 1958 – closely followed by a Fiat 500 Abarth in second place and other 500s attaining ranks 4, 6, 7, 9, and 13. And indeed, the starting grid for 2018 raises hopes for a reprise of the legendary 1958 victory. After all, there are two Fiat 500 Ds, one Fiat 500 F, two Fiat 500 Gardinieras, two Fiat 500 Ls, one Fiat 500 with a 650 engine, one Abarth 650, one Gamine 650, one Autobianchi Bianchina Trasformabile, two Autobianchi Bianchina Panoramicas, one Steyr Puch 500, one Puch 650 and a very rare Scoiattolo with a 650 engine among the 38 participants. All of them are classified in the Authentic Category, provided they are in their original condition and have a 500cc engine with original specification. All models built until 1969 and with engines up to 700cc will start in the Spirit Category. Right in line with the tradition of the original rally from 1958, the official, grand finale of Liège-Brescia-Liège 2018 will take place in Spa, as Malcolm told us – to be precise, in the Musée du Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, hosted in the lovely abbey of Stavelot, a favour by the administration of the abbey for which Malcolm is very grateful.
