Double-declutching at Fiat 500, Fiat 126 and Fiat 600

Before driving off, it is adv­isable (especially in winter) to let the engine run for a few minutes on a low rpm-rate, which allows engine oil to warm up thus enhancing engine lubrication.

As the gears of the manual gearbox are equipped with a positive clutch (i.e. dog clutch), double-declutching is recommended for every gear-shift, especially when shifting from a higher into a lower gear:

  • Press the clutch and shift into neutral position
  • Release the clutch and push throttle briefly
  • Press clutch and shift into gear
  • Release clutch
