The Cylinder Head Gasket

The cylinder head gasket is a highly technical and complex component primarily designed to seal various fluids such as water and oil from each other and to the outside, serving as a power transmitter in the engine.

A damage to the cylinder head gasket is often recognizable when it starts to leak due to excessive stress on the seal.

Since the cylinder head gasket is safety-critical, as it prevents the escape of hot gases into the vehicle interior or engine compartment, a damaged cylinder head gasket should be replaced. This prevents damage to the engine that could lead to major engine problems and high repair costs. A damaged cylinder head gasket can be identified when

• the cold-start behavior has deteriorated
• a loss of performance is noticeable
• the coolant temperature is in the red range
• there is oil in the coolant
• water and oil need to be refilled in a short period
